Are personality disorders like Borderline Personality Disorder and Histrionic Personality Disorder caused by environmental/social factors or genetic factors ?

Hmmm... the two disorders you picked are often criticized for being stereotypically female, so some would argue that the disorders are"caused"by sexist psychologists...I don't think that's really the answer you're looking for. My understanding is that many people believe genetics has a strong hand in personality disorders although severe environmental conditions (i.e. abuse) can cause them as well.
