Please answer as I am really trying to help this guy. You know ppl think he is strange and eccentric---(well, he is) and also comes across very mean spirited to some BUT he does not behave that way towards me. He is very kind and caring. I feel certain that he does suffer from OCD personality disorder according to some of the info BUT, I don't know what the difference is and also, I really want to help him.no, there is a definate differance. I read a paper on it, but, I need someone to put it in"laymans"terms

I don't believe there is a difference, OCD is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and OCD personality disorder would be Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Personality Disorder?? You are probably confusing to references to the same disease, which is not uncommon, many medical terms can vary depending on who is using them.If you want to help this guy just keep being understanding of his problems and encourage him to seek professional help (if he hasn't already) because OCD is caused by chemical imbalances and the only way to fix those is with medication and treatment.

A person can have OCD and still function relatively normally, but the difference comes between the two, if the person's OCD is taken to the extreme where it interferes with the normal activities of daily living. For example, if the person is so obsessed with hand washing that he can't come out of the bathroom or must recheck that the door is really locked an excessive # of times. That is about as layman as I think I can break it down. I wish you the best with your friend.
