Look up the 1970s pertussis epidemic in the US. THAT is why we do it. Hundreds of thousands of infants and children sick every year, hundreds dying. Hundreds crippled. Infants have no immune protection against these pathogens otherwise.

And yeah, HepB for children is kind of silly. But I wouldn't go to the work I do every day if I didn't have it.

Generally the two most important ones are DTaP - mainly for the pertussis component. The other one is MMR, mainly for the mumps and measles components - rubella is more of a risk later in life for various reasons. And Measles is just.. god damned nasty.

HiB is frequently given because it's a viciously ugly infection. Lots of pneumonia, mucus infections and it only hits children, specifically infants. This vaccine came out and we now have less than 2 cases per hundred thousand children in the US.

Some add others, some don't. Those are the three big important ones though.
