I am a 19 year old female, sophmore in college, and I have self-injured since I was 13. I can go long periods without, but I usually relapse. I wanna to get help to stop because it is getting serious and dangerous. I am embarassed about it, I don’t want any of my friends or family to know I do it. How do I go about getting help?

This is a mental health issue and as you are 19 you can seek treatment from any mental health professional without fear of your family or friends knowing. I would start by contacting your primary physician and asking to speak directly with him or her. Explain the situation and your request for privacy and they will refer you to someone reputable to assist with treatment. Also, I commend you on your honesty and wish you the best of luck. You have already taken the hardest step in deciding to get help.
