Default What is the best way to"sedate"my epileptic 3 year old on a cross country flight? - 12-23-2008, 06:49 AM

He has this major problem with a split second high pitched scream when he doesn't get his way. He does not talk and has epileptic seizures. He is currently taking Kepra and the seizures are pretty much under control, but what should I give him for the flight?

Only his doctor should advise you on this.

ASK A FRIKKIN DOCTOR~something as sensitive as this MUST be closely supervised by a physician!

You REALLY need to talk to a doctor about this. Don't get advice from any of us on-line. You may have to consider a different means of getting to your destination, such as a bus, train, etc.

Ask your doctor for advice, he will have correct information. If he is not available, consult with your pharmacist, as he will have lists of meds that won't cause a wrong interaction with Kepra. As he grows older, this problem must be kept under control, so he does not take advantage of his condition, and become a selfish tyrant. Admire your courage, have you considered the train, which would take awhile longer, but may be easier for all of you? Best wishes

I think that question is best answered by his doctor, not a bunch of lay-persons on the internet. Please tell me you are not serious.

You should not give him ANYTHING not prescribed by his doctor specifically for him. My son is on three different drugs for a seizure disorder and when he first started taking them, I was reluctant to even give him children's Tylenol for fear of a drug interaction. You have to be SO careful. Please contact his doctor, ask for his advice and follow it. Good Luck! Airplane trips can be extremely difficult with little ones. Have you spoken to your doctor about the delay in your son's speech? I am NOT trying to freak you out, believe me, but it's something you might want to investigate, if only to rule out hearing problems, autism, whatever.

I do not want to sound mean because I love helping people. You see this one time I can not help you. I have epilepsy and the only answer I can give you is this. I fly all the time and when I first started flying I talked with my doctor and he had me print out a peace of paper to give to the airline for just in case if I had a grand mal seizure while in air. Also I had to where my medic alert necklace at all times. So the best advice is. Talk to your doctor because I do not want to give you the wrong one and something happens to your son because I know how it is.
