im not sure if theres an explanation for it. just try and keep all bedding tucked in and not let it rise up, try to keep all teddies and things out the crib and check your baby/child every 20mins.

Nobody knows, sadly. But you can greatly cut down the risk by always laying baby on its back to sleep, by making sure he/she doesn't get too hot, and by not smoking yourself and not allowing anyone else to smoke near your baby.

They dont know what causes SIDS. There are ways to minimize the chances of it happening. There is so much they dont know about it that any 100% prevention is impossible at this point. You can reduce the chances of it happening by:Always have baby sleep on their back.Dont use pillows, blankets or crib bumpers in the crib or bassinetDont smoke, drink or use drugs during pregnancyDont smoke around the baby after pregnancy.Use a fan (new study shows it decreases the risk)

It's to hard to say because you mustn't make them to hot or to cold. You mustn't wrap them to tight or to loose.Don't let them sleep on their backs or with you on the sofa - it's all very random.Sometimes baby's are born with undetected holes in their hearts&this may cause their sudden departure or there may be another medical reason that has yet to be found. What always scared me was that it could happen between day one&a year old.I have worked for the ambulance service answering 999 calls for the past 8 years&have only heard of/taking the call where a baby has died in their sleep a handful of times and we cover a huge amount of people.

Lay the baby on it's back, and I was watching the news the other day and it said to leave a fan on in the babies room. It decreases the cause of sids by 70%. Dont put the fan directly on the baby, just have one in there circulating the air in the room.

someone I know lost her baby from SIDS and I was told by someone else that she was hitting her too hard to burp her what they think causes it. She wasn't abusing her, she was just not aware of how much force she was using to burp her.

I'm prone to believe that the theory Babesafe has is valid. The chemicals that are used to make mattresses and certain blankets fire retardant are low lying. Baby's nose is in that chemical cloud. The mixture of moisture plus heat from the baby changes the composition of the fire retardant making it toxic....I have wrapped my sons mattress and use only 100% cotton on both the crib and my son. There are no blankets, bumpers or loose toys in his crib. He sleeps on his back and the ceiling fan is on low oscillate. For more info on the Babesafe theory and products (which BTW are inexpensive to buy and make yourself and just as cheap to order directly from sellers of Babesafe products) use the link below. You can email me if you want to....Good luck! I also posed this question on here with SIDS....isn't the answer obvious? if you want to look up the info. I also saw the new study about the fan reducing SIDS and believe that it validates the Babesafe theory.
