Default Do psychiatrists deal with pain management? - 12-18-2008, 09:11 AM

I have had chronic upper back pain for years. My pain management doctor recently refused to increase my Lyrica prescription to more than 300 mg a day and is becomming not so helpful. Would a psychiatrist help me? Also, I have a problem with anxiety and issues with my husband. Any chance one would help with everything?

I think gentle yoga exercises would be more helpful. If there is nothing wrong structurally, realxation and muscle stretching exercises would help more than a shrink.

Yes indeed the Psych Doc can be valuable in assisting pain mgmnt...without a doubt! Also Biofeedback is n intricate attempt within the pain mgmnt area...various medical avenues can be explored, until the right combination reveals it works for you! Being you mention that your had high anxiety&emotional problems at home, I advise you to at least give the Psychologist OR Psychiatrist a good chance to intervene&possibly help you~ Hope you take good care of'you'~
