Default I just want to know, is obsessive-compulsive disorder a type of dual disorder? - 12-17-2008, 03:22 PM

I came across that question about dual disorders and I just became interested in the topic. I think my scary neighbor is obsessive-compulsive but I'm not sure if that counts as a dual disorder. So, is it?

I have OCD,mine is mostly with cleaning,I'm obsessed with clean, and compulsively clean the house,I clean things like baseboards,curtains..the silliest things,it also needs to smell good, lolI kid you not, everything has to be clean looking, and clean smelling, walls, floors.it makes me mad sometimes because I can't walk into a house with dirty walls for example, without wanting to wash them.I won't dare touch dirty walls either haha.it's a dual disorder, one part makes me think constantly about cleaning, then another part makes me actually clean it up.

No, it's ONE disorder. Obsessing over and feeling a compulsion for doing something are very similar in nature. It's SLIGHTLY different for some (who obsess) than others (who are compelled), but it's one disorder.

Yes, obsessive-compulsive disorder is a type of dual disorder. People with OCD are obsessed with being in control and taking charge of things. They are easily upset with the littlest things and are usually paranoid. An example is the character Monica of Friends. She is really obsessed with cleaning and she is easily bothered by a bit of dirt. I've included some site links for you to learn more about OCD.
