Default I some help going all organic - 08-31-2013, 08:06 PM

Hi all,
I recently moved out to the dry deserts of Arizona.
When I moved out here, I told myself I'd eat healthier and live organic since I couldn't use the cold east weather as an excuse. I admit that I haven't done a good job keeping that up. I've decided to stop making excuses and get the ball rolling again. I'm going to live an all natural, healthy lifestyle moving forward.

I've already started taking daily walks and doing yoga. I've replaced my fast food habits with fresh food from the farmers market and I've even started using all natural beauty products. There's this local store called Classic Sugar Boutique ( They have great lotions and face washes and lip balms. I love them because their practically preservative free. Look them up online.

Anyways, I need some help finding organic cleaning supplies. I want to use only green supplies in my house to help not only my family and kids, but the environment as well. Does anyone have any advice on what I can use?

Bluefire2121, We do almost all our cleaning with white distilled vinegar, baking soda and dish soap. Very cheap - you can get the vinegar by the gallon and the baking soda in big boxes. Sometimes I soak citrus rinds or pine needles in vinegar for a month and then strain it to give it a scent. I also occasionally use essential oils - lavendar and tea tree - to help with disinfection. I just add it to the vinegar. If you're really concerned about germs i.e. in bathroom, vinegar is very potent. But even more potent if you follow with hydrogen peroxide. A food scientist did some research showing how many different bacteria strains were nixed by this 1-2 combo. Be careful, however, don't mix them beforehand since their disinfection power will be destroyed by the chemistry. Just spray one on. wipe. and then the other.

We also occasionally mix vinegar with salt for mold problems. We did this in the basement and nothing has come back after a year!
