Is there something (a substance, for example, or a drug, or a procedure (but not a surgical one)) that can cause significant mental retardation in an otherwise healthy adult? If I had wanted to ask my doctor, I wouldn't be here. Why would you post an answer that's not an answer?

I think you should ask your doctor about that.Honestly though, pretty much any kind of drug or alcohol can do that, if consumed in large amounts over a significant amount of time or if someone OD's.
