Default what foods can lower my cholesterol and triglycerides and lower my weight? - 04-17-2010, 05:19 AM

My cholesterol is 270m and my triglycerides are 1000. I need help

whole grains like oatmeal or other cereals can help. read the labels to make sure the fat content of whatever you eat is low. also exercise, even walking for 30 minutes a day, can help.

1000? (Speechless.....)

Please turn over 180 degree to healthy foods. Eat fruits, vegetables, olive oils, and exercise. Throw away those fatty meals except if using unheated olive oil.


Could it be just a wrong lab result? If you doubt it, better get another check after doing above (eat fruits, ....., .....)

wholegrain is great for the heart, eating a balanced diet and plenty of exercise will help!!

You're going to need a complete makeover.

The first thing is a change of lifestyle. Throw away the soft drinks, alcohol and other non-water consumption, and get rid of the chocolate.

Hi Laura,

Here are 8 steps you can take to lower cholesterol levels:

1. Know your numbers

You need to know your LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels to determine appropriate actions. The most effective way to raise HDL is not necessarily the best way to lower LDL.

2. Evaluate your lifestyle

Know risk factors you can change and those you cannot.

3. Balance your fats

Reduce unhealthy saturated fats in your diet and replace them with heart healthy unsaturated fats.

4. Be active

Physical activity lowers triglycerides and raises HDL (good) cholesterol.

5. Eliminate trans fats

Trans fats raise LDL (bad) cholesterol, lower HDL (good) cholesterol, and raise triglycerides.

6. Understand triglycerides

Triglycerides are impacted the most by your simple sugar and alcohol intake.

7. Increase dietary fiber

You need 25-35 grams of dietary fiber daily, especially soluble fiber.

8. Add omega 3 fatty acids

Omega 3 fatty acids are involved in the regulation of heart rate, blood pressure, and blood clotting.
