Default If you're on cholesterol meds, have you found that your joints have begun to become p - 04-05-2008, 11:28 PM

I was amazed when, prior to surgery about a year ago, my doctor took me off both cholesterol melds a previous doctor had prescribed, that I'd been on for over a year, letting me know that he was amazed that joint pain wasn't given as the top side effect of them. Sure enough, about two weeks later and my hip joints especially, stopped hurting. Before that, I dreaded getting out of a two-seat er, low to the ground.

Painful joints are a very common side effect from cholesterol melds, but some Drs ignore this because the patient is elderly. Thank Goodness you changed Drs. Never let any medical person tell you your problems are because of your age; that's bull.

I have always had high cholesterol but I do not take melds for that just exercise
but i have noticed since i started back on my asthma medicine my joints are weak and muscles too
all medication has side effects and I think sometimes it is not a fair trade off because of the side effects then they want you to get on something else to combat those since effects no wonder people have a medic in cabinet full of pills

I'd been on them maybe 6 months when my arms started paining at work,, then it started to move across my chest, so I stopped taking them. That was about 9 years ago, so I just have followed a low cholesterol diet since then.

I was on cholesterol melds (Zocor) for a year with no problems, and they lowered my cholesterol level almost 100 points...boohoo!, right? Then suddenly, every bone in my body started aching like I had the flu. I went to my doctor and she took me off the melds immediately. She said the body aches were a serious side effect (in some people) of stat ins, and what was happening was, because cholesterol melds are so hard on the liver, sometimes the liver stops filtering wastes effectively, and the body aches are actually from toxins "seeping out" into the muscle fibers. Within three days of stopping the melds, I was back to 100%. I couldn't believe how quick the recovery was.

My doctor put me on cholesterol melds and I was so sore I could hardly turn over in bed. I had stairs to climb and could hardly climb up them. I quit taking them and it took me a couple of weeks before I felt any better.
My doctor wanted to put me on another pill but I turned it down and I just put myself on a diet. I won't take any of those pills for cholesterol.

I use natural preventive methods for high cholesterol such as a niacin tablet every morning. That seems to work without the pains.

I have not seen that as a side effect.

Yes. I have tried 3 different melds and all made my legs hurt so much. Now I am on Niaspan and the side effects are "flushing" (redness of my skin) for about 20 minutes. I can handle that better than the leg aches.
