Default Do i have breast cancer, please help? - 07-07-2009, 01:16 AM

i am a woman in my early forties. i have never had a mammogram done. about 4 months ago, i noticed a lump under my armpit. i really do not think it had been there for a long time, but i am not sure. i got blood tests done, and everything came out normal. i will be going to the doctor again, but what are the chances of this being breast cancer. i have no family history of it. the lump itself seems to have actually grown over the course of these months. doctors do not really know what it is yet, so i will have a biopsy done. the lump is quite large, maybe the size of a tangerine. it is quite hard. the lump itself doesn't hurt, and it is on my left side. my left arm sometimes hurts and feels numb. my breasts look normal. although they have hurt before. what are the chances of this lump being cancerous. please help me, i am really worried about this.
i get tired easily, i get headaches, my body aches, and i have had a skin rash that itches a lot and gets red when i scratch it for about a few years now.
i also get my period more frequently than normal, maybe three times in two months.
i also do take on a lot of stress.
as i said, i already have an appointment for a biopsy, i am just asking for a second opinion. its normal to feel scared, and i am not hiding, i merely want others' opinions. i mentioned that i had a blood test done to rule out any other possibilities. the extra details were given just in case something else was a possibility.

Hello,

I'm sorry but we are not able to know the exact rate of probability.

If your breast looks normal, anyway there is the possibility of a breast cancer.

There are also malignancies arising from lemonades and, fortunately, inflammatory diseases.

You have to look for the biopsy and for other imaging exams results.

Breast cancer takes many forms. It doesn't usually hurt. I hope it turns out to be benign and you can get rid of it with surgery.

Your additional details do not indicate breast cancer.
Did this doctor do a blood test for another reason.
Mammogram is what is used to detect breast cancer
later followed by a biopsy if doctor is suspicious.
Breast Cancer is usually not painful.
We really cant say if this lump is cancerous,
we would only be guessing.

Most breast and underarm lumps are not cancerous.

You are in a fairly low risk group for breast cancer; only 10% of those diagnosed are aged between 40 and 50.

Breast pain is rarely a symptom of breast cancer, and when it is it's constant, it doesn't come and go.

Tiredness, headaches and other aches and pains and rashes are not symptoms of breast cancer.

Nor is stress either a symptom or a risk factor, and breast cancer doesn't affect your periods.

Well first of ALL, blood tests aren't going to tell you if you have breast cancer!! you need the lump assessed then biopsied. And a mammogram will need to be performed. Stop being scared, stop hiding in your home, and go make that appointment before you see that casket!!!!!! wow!

A hard, painless mass the size of a tangerine in the left axial that has noticeably grown in recent months does suggest some type of malignancy. Breast cancer or one of the many types of lymphoma are possibilities. We could speculate all day. The key tests are a mammogram and most importantly an excisions biopsy of the mass itself if this is surgically feasible. Depending on the biopsy result, a CT scan of the chest and upper abdomen may be indicated. Routine blood tests are frequently normal in patents who have newly diagnosed malignancies. This could also be a benign mass, but the odds favor a malignancy from what you describe. We who have experience with cancers would have a much better chance of predicting if we could examine this rather than hear it described over the Internet. What did your doctor think this was ? He or she had a chance to palpate this mass.

Your clinical profile does raise the possibility of secondaries in the axial.
Biopsy will only confirm or rule out.
As you are shadily for Bx.,it is better for its result.

You would be very lucky if a lump the size of a tangerine was not breast cancer. Only the biopsy will tell. Breast Cancer lumps don't hurt. Hopefully as 80 percent of biopsies come back normal, that yours will as well. Good Luck.
