Default What brand of birth control pills do you recommend? - 12-16-2008, 01:43 AM

I'm an eighteen year old female, and have been taking birth control since I was seventeen. Obviously, as a teenager, I have occasional breakouts of acne, which can be very irritating and inconvenient. What I've had some difficulty with is increased discharge with some birth control, in addition to mood swings and headaches. I've taken Yasmine, Ortho-TriCyclen Lo, and Seasonale. I liked the benefits of Seasonale, only getting a period 4x/year, but I noticed that I had mood swings and headaches a lot from it. I took Ortho-TriCyclen Lo, and had increased discharge for some reason or another. Yasmine wasn't too bad, as it has a diuretic, to lessen water weight. I'd like to hear about other people's experience with birth control, and what you recommend. My main goal with birth control other than the contraceptive use is for the acne medication, one that doesn't make you gain weight, or one that allows fewer periods. What do you suggest?

Yasmin has been hands down my favorite. I miss it, now that I've changed to Yaz :[

I personally like nuvaring. I am not sure about any acne benefits but the ring is easy to use and you will know exactly what day your cycle starts and stops.

Try the NuvaRing... it has the same medicines as the pill, but it releases it into your body at a very consistent rate. If you are late or miss a day of taking your pill, it can cause an acne flare up because of the hormonal imbalance.

Any responses you get aren't going to help you, honeybun. All women's bodies process the same hormones differently; a pill your sister or friends loves and raves about and recommends may work horribly for you.The only way to find one that works for you is trial-and-error. You try one pill at a time for 3 months, then report to your doctor any side-effects. If you have acne? They'll likely try one with lower androgenic properties (Yasmin has the lowest possible). If you're gaining weight? They'll likely put you on a lower estrogen pill. This 3 month trial process continues until you find a pill that works well for you. You can certainly try one that's recommended to you, but don't expect the same effects.

Depending upon your understanding of nutrition, you may be surprised to learn that parents are having great success giving their children minerals and vitamins for ADHD. Turns out some scientists believe that part of what causes ADHD in the first place is a brain that is deficient in the nutrients it needs to function properly. In this article, you'll learn about the supplements that can help your child put ADHD symptoms behind him.
