Default Antioxidants - 05-22-2010, 11:32 AM

Oxidation is a process that happens when free radicals damage cells. You absolutely want to eat plenty of antioxidants from fruits and vegetables for great skin, but you also want to use products that contain antioxidants for further protection. Antioxidants basically destroy the free radicals that would otherwise wreak havoc on your skin cells.

Yes, You are right and also, Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. Antioxidants act as free radical scavengers and this Free radicals can damage cells, and may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases.

An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from one substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals that start chain reactions that damage cells.

Remember food consumption increase your metabolism, and its that process that creates free radicals (to a large degree), so just eating your anti-oxidants won't work, at least not for reducing oxidative stress in any measurable fashion. Of course good nutrition is important one, just like putting good gas into a car is good, but doesn't mean that good gas reduces exhaust.

Antioxidant is a molecule capable of preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidants, commonly known as "free radicals" are generated by external sources such as sun exposure or pollution. Other means include stress, as well as things that people view their bodies, such as alcoholic beverages, unhealthy foods, and cigarette smoking.

Antioxidants retard or slow down the aging process. We should therefore eat a balanced diet, which helps to meet our body nourishment requirements.
