I lost 50 lbs in 9 months a few years back and have pretty much kept it off since.
I worked out using an online calculator how many calories I needed to eat to lose weight whilst remaining healthy - for me it was 1500 cals per day. So I then spread out those calories throughout the day, having something small every 2-3 hours, like a weight loss shake, a banana or a healthy (low fat) cereal bar. Then dinner was just something like grilled chicken or salmon with some rice or potatoes.
Eating small meals and often meant that I wasnt ever really hungry and I instantly felt better within myself as I was never stuffing my face. As soon as you start FEELING the difference it will become 10 times easier.
Thats what worked for me because I had the discipline to stick to it in the beginning and then it took care of itself once I saw the weight dropping off.
