someone may correct me on this.. but it seems that the police (if called immediately when baby is found) are going to do some investigation, at some level, and it is probably routine. Police don't have the training or authority to decide that the cause of death IS sids.. that probably has to come from a medical professional.Sorry for whatever loss prompted your question.

I lost my daughter to SIDS on September 21, 2007. First let me tell you how sorry I am. The ambulance got there first then the police took me and my husband aside separately and questioned us. They wouldn't let us go in our house so they could snoop around and take pictures. After about an hour of this, they left. Then they called us again to ask us another question. A few days later Child Protective Services came out to inspect our home (we have another child) and ask us more questions. They inspected Faith's room and even talked to my 6 year old son. Then I never heard from any of them again. After calling the coroner's office every week for six months, we finally got the coroner's report back confirming that it was SIDS in March. It's going to be a very long and hard battle. I will pray for you. Stay strong.
