Default What temp should we set the a/c in the house for our new born baby? - 12-25-2008, 05:33 PM

We normally like to sleep with the a/c at around 70 degrees F, but with new born baby about to come we want to make sure that everyone is comfy. Any suggestions on this?

That temperature is fine. Generally speaking, a comfortable sleeping temperature is between 68 and 70 degrees F. I know that a newborn is used to a temperature of 98+ degrees F, but if you think about it, the clothing plus the swaddling will keep him/her warm enough. I think you can leave the thermostat where it is.

If you are hot, the baby probably is too, if you are cold, so is the baby.Adjust the temp to what makes you feel comfy. Just remember that if you are comfy or even a little warm, you do not need to bundle your baby like you are taking it out into a snow storm. My doc always told me to feel the back of the baby's neck and that will give you an idea of if he's too hot or cold.

Well you don't want your house to be stifling, just keep it at a comfortable temperature for you and dress your baby like you would dress yourself. You want to keep the temp fairly low, it reduces the risk of SIDS.

I was told to keep the temp around 67-73 degrees F. I have the AC on 75-76 during the day and at night I have the heat on about 68-69. During the day, she just wears a little less so she doesn't get to hot. And at night, she wears a little more. =) Just experiment with what feels comfortable to you and see how the baby reacts. Some babies like to be a little warmer then you and some a little cooler. My sister-in-law's baby hates warm or hot weather. She is comfortable at 65 degrees, where my baby is comfortable at around 72 degrees.Hope that helps! =)
