you have to be tested for HIV when you get pregnant. i dint think they would test the baby if the mother tested negative but I'm not 100% sure on that.

You get tested during your pregnancy not after you give birth.

If I remember correctly, the normal procedure is to get tested during pregnancy for HIV so if you have it they can provide you with medication so to decrease the chance your baby gets it. If you - than the baby wouldn't be tested. A pregnant woman can refuse to take an HIV test but I dunno why they would.

You can get an HIV test during pregnancy, but I didn't bother because I'm not at risk. If you test negative and aren't at risk, they probably don't test your baby.

It depends on the OBGYN practice. Usually at your first visit you will be given a ton of paperwork and somewhere in that stack there should be paperwork about blood work and you should be given the option to accept or decline many of the tests while others are routine. The HIV, amniocentesis and sickle cell tests are usually among the optional tests and you will be asked. The HIV test highly recommended for all mothers to be and poses no risk to mother or child. The sickle cell test is recommended for some mothers depending on race (as carriers/risk differ b/w races) and the amino carries some risk so should be discussed with you doctor.
