My best friend was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 13. We just finished our junior year of high school and now all of a sudden, she's into drugs and alcohol. I'm really worried about her, but I don't want to get her in trouble and make her hate me if I tell her parents. I'm just not aware, if she drinks or smokes weed, would it harm her in anyway since she's epileptic?

Alcohol is bad for everyone. That's a no brain er. I do not know its effects on all epileptic patients, but my best friend has epilepsy and alcohol does not bring on seizures.

Marijuana is not harmful. I'd get her to stop drinking before asking her to stop smoking weed.

Alcohol and epilepsy don't mix. While epileptics can usually drink moderately, binge drinking or any heavy drinking can cause seizures, and from what you're saying I'm guessing your friend is probably drinking heavily when she drinks.

Marijuana, on the other hand, is even used to *treat* epilepsy, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Hippie mama is absolutely right. After 50 grams of alcohol, your likelihood of having a seizure doubles. So try to keep it under 2 drinks. As for marijuana, it can be used to treat seizures, but has been known to trigger them in some. You won't know if it effects you one way or the other unless you try it.

Marijuana has actually been pr oven to help control epileptic seizures. Alcohol, on the other hand, isn't good for anyone. That should be obvious.
