I don't know what type of cancer he has -- small cell vs. non-small cell. I also don't at what stage he was when diagnosed. If his health was relatively good to begin with, he has kept up a healthier lifestyle, the chemo was initiated immediately and aggressively, and if his Oncologist's treatment plan is aggressive, he has a fair to good chance of survival. Others have done so with Stage 3.
Rally your entire family and his friends to support him emotionally and keep up his spirits. For many, chemo can feel worse than the effects of the disease. If he becomes discouraged, lend him your courage. You can all see him through the nausea, the vomiting, the lack of appetite, the fatigue of treatment and the other possible complications and side effects. If he is determined to fight it and has a good support network in place, he can do it. I wish you all great success and prayer never hurt either.
