Default What should I expect at an infertility evalution? - 01-16-2009, 11:17 AM

I am going to the doctor Thursday to discuss my infertility problem. I am a little nervous because I'm not sure what to expect. This is an appointment just for me (my husband will be going to a male doctor). So, if anyone could tell me some of the details od what happens, I would greatly appreciate it!

It's a lot like going to the GYN on your annual. They are going to ask you a variety of questions, how long you have been trying. If you have irregular, heavy or painful periods. It's best to have as much documented as possible. They will ask you how long ago you started trying, how many days between your periods, not everyone is the standard 28 as I'm sure you know. What things you have tried, ovulation kits and such. Just write down everything you can between now and the appointment. The more information you have with you the better and more accurate of a diagnosis the Dr can give you.Good luck

Bring your hubby if he can go. You are in this together! When we went we had been trying to conceive for 5 months, but were charting and timing intercourse. I saw an old OB that I didn't like that much since my normal doctor was on maternity leave. We brought almost 2 years of charts (since we were charting to try not to conceive also). His advice was to start charting, but since I we already were he just said just relax and keep trying while charting for 3 more months. After 3 months he ordered a sperm test for the hubby and a HSG for me. Both came back fine and by then my midwife was back. She took one look at my chart and said that since I was ovulating on day 20 and not closer to day 14, my eggs might be too old. So she put my on 3 months of clomid, but we only needed 2!You can get more info about charting from fertilityfriend.com. Feel free to email me with more questions also.

They will ask you all about your history and I'm sure do a blood test and maybe an internal exam too.
