Default How do permannet residents bring their child with down syndrome from another country? - 01-14-2009, 10:25 AM

I know a couple who have been permanent residents for about 4 years and their adult daughters are in another country awaiting their approval once the parents become citizens after 5 years. All along they have a 24 year old daughter with down syndrome who is being cared for by aunts, and who is also on the waiting list. They were recently told there is a new law that passed where they can bring theyre daughter over on a special visa and she can wait here for her appointment. Please, any information will be appreciated.

In Canada a family would not have been allowed to emigrate here with a downs syndrome child because the child will be a huge drain on the health system. Also now that the child is over the age of 22, she is no longer a dependent and may not be eligible for sponsorship by parents.
