Yes, the night guard is the best solution. I'm not suggesting one of the bulky ones you get at the drug store. Have your dentist take impressions of your teeth and fabricate one from them. It is much more comfortable, less bulky and works. I swear by them since I use one myself for clenching and grinding at night. There are times during the day that I even wear mine. For the TMJ pain, there is an exercise that works well with most patients. Take two moist towels and heat in the microwave until hot, place these on each jaw at the joint area. As the moist heat starts to soothe the jaw, easing the tension, start to stretch your mouth open and then closed, stretching a little wider each time. Do this stretching exercise several times being sure to keep the towels damp and hot, and try to do it several times a day or whenever you feel the joints getting tight. Hope I’ve been of some help and try the custom made night guard. You will feel the relief the first night. Good luck!
