I think I may have TMJ. I certainly have symptoms of TMJ. Should I be getting it checked out by my doctor or dentist?

dentist. they will fit your mouth with something that is called a splint for you to wear at night. it feels weird at first but keep wearing it anyway. it really helps.

Dentist and then probably an oral surgeon; you may have to have surgery for TMJ or you may just need to wear the device at night.

Definitely dentist.TMJ disorders are a group of complex problems related to the jaw joint. The most common symptom of TMJ problem is painful clicking, popping or grating sounds in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth. Let me guess… you should also have bad headaches, earaches, and dizziness sometimes?? In about 90 percent of cases, the patient's description of symptoms, combined with a simple physical examination of the face and jaw, provides information useful for diagnosing the TMJ disorders. My advise to you is to see a ORAL-Medicine dentist who specialize in TMJ disorder. Your general dentist should be able to refer you to one!! Hope that helps. Most of time, a doctor will just give you prescription drugs to heal you pain only and then refer you to a dentist.

definitely a doctor, a jaw surgeon.. ive had hundreds of patients with tmj dysfunction which saw me after dentist's splints or other treatments.. dentists are commonly causes of tmj dysfunction, not caregivers..
