I am doing a theatre production in a city where an indoor smoking law is in affect. The law includes smoking on stage. The show I'm producing contains characters that smoke cigarettes. I know about the fake cigarettes with the powder in them, but I think they're horribly fake looking. I'm wondering if anyone out there has seen or used any other alternatives to creating realistic-looking smoking on stage without ANY sort of burning material? Maybe something with dry ice or another harmless substance? Or, if you have ideas on how to make something that could do this, I'm open to those too.

Real cigarettes, the smoker lights up the stage to put any vigilant in the auditorium of nicotine. Herbal cigarettes are fake or if the horrific, the stories immediately hurt faintly fishy smell. In both cases, tobacco, remind the audience itself.

Smoke a few cigarettes a night can in no way comparable to stab someone or shoot someone go. Yes, while smoking can cause disease, but in a theatre setting I feel very good that nobody, whether the actor or the public, was in immediate danger of a person smoking a cigarette or two stage.
