Default How do I get my daughter to sleep in her own bed? - 01-20-2009, 01:41 AM

My 5 1/2 yr old daughter sleeps in bed with her 7yr old sister. She used to sleep in the hallway outside my bedroom door and still does when her sister isn't here to sleep with. I want her to sleep in her own bed, they share a room but bed sharing i don't want!

put her in her bed and lie down next to her for the first week. then the next week sit on a chair next to her bed and read her a book until she falls asleep. then gradually move your chair further until she just gets used to the idea of sleeping alone.and the most important thing don't give up.

I have that trouble sometimes with my 3 1/2 yo and her 7 yo sister and what I do is start her off in her own bed, then when she moves with her sister - I wake up a few hours later and move her again. After a couple of weeks she should get used to her own bed, the main thing you need to take into account is that there isn't an over night solution to this problem!

why not let them share a bed maybe your 7 year old is your 5 year old security blanket my girls are 3 and 8 they sleep in the same bed which is better her sleeping with your daughter or her sleeping beside your bedroom door give her time she'll sleep in her own bed when she's ready

Tell your 7 yr old to tell the 5yr old that she is tired and wants to sleep alone. I know she will understand and hopefully if I'm right they have a really good relationship as sisters. My sister and i used to do that when we were little and it was only because she would be scared. Maybe if you tell her that she would be OK and talk to her nicely, she would stop.

My mom had the same problem with me. She let me pick a reasonable date to stop sleeping with her and my sisters, and when that date came, I knew I could do nothing about it.I'm 18 now, but occasionally, I still sleep with one of them.

Start slow. Put her mattress on the floor beside her sisters bed. Then every few days , move it closer to where her own bed sits. Eventually , you can put it back on her bed and she will stay there. Also, give her a lot of stuffed animals to sleep with. She won't feel like she is alone and stay put.

ummm...my son won't go to sleep by his self so I let him start out with me and once he is asleep, I move him to his bed.

Talk to her and see if you can find out why. It will take time and sometimes its better not to rush things or it might get worse.
