Default What medication is available for obsessive/compulsive thinking? - 12-16-2008, 04:41 AM

I find that my thinking has become more obsessive/compulsive in nature and was wondering what medication is out there to keep my thinking in check. What are the possible side effects? How does it interact with other medications?

Lexapro is good, and also Paxil. These are anti-depressants that are also anti-anxiety. Are you seeing a therapist? there is a great workbook, Thoughts&Feelings that is excellent--it's cognitive behavioral therapy which is good for OCD.

you really need to see a doctor there are many many types of different medications available all with different side effects and depending on the exact nature of your condition your doctor will advise what is best for you personally.

Before you look for the treatment medicines, get diagnosed by a professional. Many people think that they are afflicted with OCD, but only a very small percentage REALLY are. Either way though, whether you are or aren't afflicted with OCD, get examined by a pro, and that way they can prescribe the proper prescription to help treat your condition. Even if some of the other answerers on here were to correctly diagnose you they can't give you a script. Please see a professional, you'll be glad you did, and by the way, I know all this because someone close to me has been diagnosed with OCD.
