Default How do you prevent episodes of Borderline Personality Disorder? - 01-19-2009, 12:49 PM

Are there ways of controlling the length of episodes with a Borderline Personality. What makes the person change. My girlfriend is Borderline, I'm learning her, she's running out of excuses, for her behavior.

BPD is a very difficult disorder to treat. The person who has it has to be highly motivated and highly insightful, two qualities that many borderlines do not have. It is very difficult to have relationships with borderlines.Does she have a current therapist? It might help if she did, and if you could go to some sessions with her and learn how to be in this relationship.Good luck!

Unfortunately YOU can't prevent any of this. Only she can control this. And due to the degree of manipulation by borderline's it will be almost impossible for you to believe / trust what/how she is doing for herself. Medication can help the symptoms, but most likely only long term (YEARS) of therapy can help resolve this disorder. Because this does take years, I would never consider dating anyone with this disorder unless they were over 30 years old. This would give them time for therapy and to learn who they truly are for themselves. If they can't love + understand themselves, they can't do the same for you. They'll only be dependent upon you. Good Luck!

people like that usually grow out of it with age. or accidentally kill themselves. They are most annoying and burn everyone out that tries to help, professionally and personally. Some are worse then others. Sounds like she has burnt you out, Good luck!
