Default What would be better......a pain management clinic or a family doctor? - 12-25-2008, 08:17 AM

I am 35 yrs old and 14 yrs ago i dropped 3,000 lbs of steel on my left foot. It crushed the bones in the top of my foot and squished the nerves in my foot also. I guess i'm getting older cause after getting over my injury it didn't bother me but for the past 3 years i have had tremendous pain in that foot. I have a great family doctor who gives me an injection once a month and a prescription for lorcet 7.5....which help when i'm in pain. The only problem is he doesn't give me enough to get through the month. I have discussed this with him and he said he didn't feel comfortable in changing to a higher dose or increasing the amount. I have a new insurance plan and i don't need a referral to go see another doctor. I buy my pain med. at a pharmacy without using my insurance so nobody knows or there is no record of me getting these. What doctor should i see to get something else for pain......a pain management doctor or another family physician. i'm looking for help not just pills.

Pain management Dr would probably be most effective. They are more willing to give the higher doses and or drug combinations because that is what they specialize in. Best of luck.

Go to a pain management clinic. you may be able to get a pump that you use yourself to combat the pain with a catheter into a vein.....and no you cannot overdose with one. Noone needs to be in that amount of pain. Good Luck

Foods are medicine. I recommend checking a nutrition store for some literature that has ideas. The library can help too.Or try the web. Vitamin C is a good anti-inflammatory and can help relieve pain. You may have to take it to bowel tolerance at first to see if it has any effect. Some bone and cartilage rebuilding supplements may help too. These things take some time so be prepared to give it a few months. Also prayer is a proven resource. Find a group of believers to help you with this. God is not limited on healing issues. One solution is given in James chapter 1.
