Default What is your favorite health food or nutrition secret? - 01-01-2009, 11:40 PM

I'm looking to broaden my horizons and try new health foods. I'm getting bored with the same salads and fruit I eat each day. Please share any nutrition secrets or health foods that have helped you or that you liked.Serious answers only. Thanks!

I think most people believe a strip of turkey bacon is better for you than the pork equivalent. If you take the time to learn what healthy foods your children do love, it will make your job easier favourite healthy foods and meals template in the schedules and templates section of this book and assign a sheet to each child and husband.

Nutrition does not constitute food items that either deplete the body of nutrients and/or increase the energy expenditure by the body in order to method that food item.

If you really want to choose healthy foods, there is a very easy rule of thumb that ive found helps me to remember ... basically anything RIDICULOUSLY tasty like really sugary, salty or fatty foods, they need to be either out, or only very rarely eaten. Another good rule to remember is "can i recognise this as a natural food, or is it a man-made creation?"

For any change in diet, you really need to remember that your energy intake/expenditure needs to be balanced. So basically you need to make the change but keep your energy levels balanced. In a healthy diet you are after complex carbohydrates. You would be wanting to eat plenty of foods such as fruits and vegetables, cereals, beans and nuts.

The things you really want to avoid are: high salt intake (most processed foods are crammed full of salt), high saturated fats and trans fats (again most processed foods, especially oily and deep fried foods, many fast foods), and extremely sweet foods like soft drinks, sugary cakes and the like. Remember that if your wanting to eat healthier, you dont need to eliminate them totally, but they should be an "occasional" rather than a "every meal" item.

Another aspect of nutrition thats important and often overlooked is that most people are dehydrated. To be properly hydrated, you need to drink the right amount of water for your weight. The best way is to sip water through the day. Waiting until you feel thirsty means your body has already become dehydrated long ago. Its worth looking into this and getting it right, as it can really help you a lot. For someone like me who is about 165 pounds i should be drinking at least 2 litres of water a day.

Agree you need to drink lots of water.. i don't think so 2 litter is enough.. you need to drink 4 litr per day..

I agree on the drinking of water. However, what quantity pretty much depends on your weight, the climate which you live in and just how much water your body needs (for some that's plenty, for others a bit less).

For me personally, nutrition is about having a balanced diet - eating a wide variety of food (fruits, veggies, meat and fish, starchy foods) and eating regularly (breakfast, lunch and dinner). That way i dont eat much and i dont starve during the day. I occasionally snack on unhealthy foods and it doesn't do me any harm to treat myself with something sugary every now and again. the key is not to overdo with anything, just keep it balanced.
