What is now termed fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva was formerly called hereditary myositis ossificans. It is generally not considered a form of muscular dystrophy at present, but classifications change and expand from time to time. There are a few symptoms that are common to MD, but I think the pathophysiology is quite different. However, certain conditions that I would not think fall under the category of muscular dystrophy are covered by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. You might want to contact them.
