A handful of people that I know have come down with multiple sclerosis in recent years. The majority of them, coincidentally, have, in the past, been known to use cocaine. I saw a special on Richard Pryor, who was rumored to be a cocaine user and also famous for his battle with MS and came to the conclusion that there could be a correlation. Has there ever been any research done on this topic? If MS is believed to be caused by damage to the myelin sheath, a protective material that surrounds nerve cells, is it possible that cocaine use can cause damage to the myelin sheath? If MS is believed to be caused by damage to the myelin sheath, a protective material that surrounds nerve cells, is it possible that cocaine use can damage to the myelin sheath?
