Default Can I refuse a PAP smear and still get birth control? - 12-31-2008, 10:28 AM

If I go to my doctor to go on birth control, and she wants to give me a PAP smear, can I refuse it even though I'm under 18 and still be able to get birth control?I just need a yes or no answer.

Depends on your Doctor. They may require one since you haven't had one. Planned Parenthood will give you birth control without requiring a pap test.

It depends on the doctor, and your reasoning. If you are in fact going on it because you are sexually active then NO they'll definitely want to give you a pap smear. If you are going on the pill to regulate periods and aren't sexually active then they may give you a script without a pap smear.Pap smears are simple, painless, and quick, so if your doctor wants to give you one just let him/her, you'll never even know it's going on... I promise.Hope this helps. :-)

As a rule no. If you are very young, and there's good reason to suspect you have never been sexually active- and they are needed for the regulation of your periods, then a doctor might. Otherwise, the odds are not in your favor. If you refuse to have an exam, though, chances are good they will refuse to provide the prescription.
