Default Has your dog ever had Lyme disease? - 04-06-2008, 12:26 AM

I get my dog tested every 6 months. His test today came back positive. The vet didn't seem concerned about it. I was told that they don't want to prescribe antibiotics until he starts to show symptoms. They told me the symptoms are him not eating or becoming lethargic. They gave me the example if he doesn't want to go for walks anymore. He loves walks and we go to the dog park almost daily, but over the past year he has slowed down on his playing. I attributed this to him getting out of his puppy stages and maturing. It started right around when he turned 2. He is now almost 3.

If your dog has had Lyme, did the vet tell you something similar? What was the vet's advice to you?

Thank you
I would really rather not wait until he stops eating an ad becomes lethargic. That seems mean to me.
this is the first time I have ever used this vet. The only reason I did is because we are on vacation and he needed his vaccinations this week and I couldn't get him in with the regular vet before I left. My regular vet closes at noon on Fridays so I can't even call them. It just seems shady.

I mean she could have charged me for the pills and made more money, so I can't see her reason for not wanting to give them to me.

I am really unfamiliar with Lymes because the area I live in, it rarely happens. I think my dog Gustave gotten it when we were camping or something in a different state.

Yes, he is on Frontline Plus
Review - Was he ever treated for it? How long has he had it? Thanks for your answer

My boys have never had Lyme Disease.

I am a little concerned that your vet was so casual about it. I would not want to wait until my pup shows symptoms before medicating. I think that is a little absurd.

Do you trust this vet?

My family had a dog with Lyme disease. It went into remission and never negatively affected his life. It wasn't serious in our case.

From what I know his Lyme Disease wasn't active.
My dog got a series of shots that put the disease into remission. My dog died later in life due to cancer not Lyme disease.
