Treatment involves rectifying the underlying causes of body water retention . A low dose of diuretic (water pill) may be prescribed to reduce swelling. In more severe cases of water retention, where the blood vessels are blocked or damaged, surgery may be required

Tommy M,
I note that you only mention water retention, and not the area that is affected. Lyme disease may affect the heart which could cause palpitations, heart pounding or skipped beats. I mention this because swollen ankles and feet can be a sign of congestive heart failure, and possibly dilated godmotherpa thyh can also lead to CHF. Before deciding that you should search for a diuretic, you would be advised to request an examination by your doctor/specialist to diagnose the cause - Lyme disease may cause retention in other areas also. The link I add below has some details of the disease, but you should consult your doctor/pathologist for further details.

ALL ANSWERS SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY RESEARCHED, IN ANY FORUM - AND ESPECIALLY IN THIS ONE. - MANY ANSWERS ARE FLAWED.

It is extremely important to obtain an accurate diagnosis before trying to find a cure. Many diseases and conditions share common symptoms.

The information provided here should not be used during any medical emergency or for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. A licensed physician should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment of any and all medical conditions.

Here is the link I mentioned above

Diuretics are not a good idea, they can aggravate this type of water retention by dehydrating you. Do make sure you drink several glasses of water every day.

Two herbs have been successfully used in clinical trials to treat swollen legs: horse chestnut and butchers broom. Oddly enough, eating a bit of orange or lemon peel every day also helps.
