Default Do I have Lupus???????????????? - 10-21-2008, 11:23 PM

Alright, since I've gotten many tests done, and nothing shows up.. I've been doing my own research.
My symptoms are
-fatigue
-sore joints
-cold sometimes warm extremities
-vision changes
-weak
-Foggy thinking
-twitching in leg, and feet

Alright, those are the most common symptoms. My Dr. told me he thought it was a thyroid problem, but my levels are fine. So, what is wrong with me? It all started with Fatigue, it's been going on for about 4 months now, and I'm sick of this. I look up some stuff on line, and I found that my symptoms are a lot like the symptoms of someone with Lupus. Can someone give me any info please, and how is this diagnosed??

I have been tested for lupus also and had negative results. After going to many doctors and having many tests for thyroid, rhumatoid arthritis, and MS, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I started taking Savella in May and have seen major improvements in my health. You may want to talk to your doctor and mention this to him as there is no particular test for fibromyalgia. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

The thing about your symptoms is there are SOOO many things that have those exact same symptoms. Lupus is just a blood test. Ive been suffering from the same symptoms as you for some time now, over 2 years. I myself have been tested for everything under the sun, lupus included. Its rare you have lupus but ask your dr to check just in case. You may also want to get checked for Lyme disease because those are symptoms for lyme as well. I tested Lyme positive. They treat it with a 6 week antibiotic course. After I was cured of Lyme I still suffered these symptoms so I think I had more than one problem on my end, now im testing for everything again. I think im going to try a gluten free diet for a month and see if that makes me feel better. Cause those symptoms can also be tied up with Celiac disease. I too have done much much research on those symptoms because im tired of living with it as well. And yes fibromyalgia is another one it could be...but theres no way to test for it so its basically getting tested for everything else possible to rule out other diseases then if theres nothing...they might call it fibromyalgia. The test for celiacs disease is a colonoscopy...i think ill just try the gluten free diet first! But before you think Celiacs disease...get tested for lyme and lupus! Its just blood tests, and have them check your vitamin levles also if they havent because certain vitamin shortages can cause those symptoms as well. See what I mean...SOOO many things it could be, its a matter of elimination!

A diagnosis of lupus is based on
1. medical history
2. symptoms
3. a variety of tests
4. after eliminating everything else

Tests that help in the diagnosis of lupus include ANA, anti Sudan, anti Smith, seed rate, ferreting, CRP, CBC with differential and CMP.

Go see a hematologist. A general doctor is no qualified to make this diagnosis. WNW.rheumatology.org

Although this could be a number of things, with those symptoms I would have advised a patient to have blood tests to rule out lupus. If you'd like a lot more information on symptoms, diagnosis, treatment etc please visit our website WNW.lupus.org.uk, there is also a free lupus nurslingonervice there too so you can also e-mail her questions which she will answer for you.

Please be careful where you get your information as there is a lot of incorrect information and 'advice' available on the internet, usually written by people not qualified to speak about lupus.

I would definitely persist in looking for the cause of your symptoms.
Good luck!
