the dr said the pits on his earlobes(look like ears are pierced) are sometimes related to kidney disorders and had to have a kidney ultrasound today . has anyone else had or heard of this and what was the outcome??

My son was born with I'm assuming it's a"pit"on his upper right ear. His Dr. told me it was nothing."I'm like nothing hello there's a small hole or peircing on his ear."But the Dr. said it's normal like a birthmark. My son is now 2y/o and has no health conditions.

While still developing, in the uterus, the baby's kidneys and ears develop at the same time. Knowing this, when the doctors see things wrong with the ears, they automatically check out the kidneys just to make sure there is nothing wrong with them. The ultrasound is harmless. It is not uncommon in newborns, I've seen it lots of times where I work. The outcome will depend on what, if anything the doctor finds on the ultrasound. Hope your baby is fine.

My daughter didn't have pits buts she has a little skin tag on her ear and i was told exactly the same thing. She went for her kidney ultrasound when she was 6 weeks old.The doctor told me it was more of a precautionery ultrasound just in case, and there could be nothing wrong at all. It's better to be safe then sorry. As it turns out she is fine.Congratulations on your new baby.

Default Same thing - Any answers? - 01-07-2011, 04:42 PM

I just came across your post. I have a 26 month old who also has two "pits" in both her ear lobes. Although they look like a piercing they do not penetrate completely through the lobe. She also had a kidney ultrasound when she was a newborn but most recently has been diagnosed with atypical cystic fibrosys. She has seen many genetic doctors but with no answers as to why her ears may have these pits. Just wondering if you have received any further information or if any symptoms have been diagnosed since your posting.

hmme..better consult a specialist regarding this case. This is somewhat sensitive and it would be cruel for the child if it end up having an ailment.
