Infectious disease doctors specialize in diagnosing and treating infectious diseases. Most of them work on a consult basis, where they are asked by other providers for help in diagnosing or treating patients. Most of them work in a hospital setting. They can also be responsible for community infection control and public health if they are interested. Many of them also work in developing countries to try and improve sanitation and medical access to treat infectious diseases (like HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, etc.)It's not action-packed usually, but if you like being presented with multiple puzzles and problems to solve, then it might be a good field for you.
