Default what are the pros and cons of having a hysterectomy? - 12-27-2008, 10:07 AM

i guess if a hysterectomy is medically necessary, it has to be done. but what are some of the worst things that could happen? what should i ask my doctor? i have grown children, so that's no longer an issue. thanks for any info.

Usually the worst things are infection or such. Its common to have menopause happen sooner after having one. Otherwise, it really isn't that bad. There is some recovery time when you will be sore, after that you will feel pretty much normal. Some of the women I have worked with report feeling empty inside after.

It will depend on the type of hysterectomy you're having. Just having the uterus removed will not upset the hormones produced by the ovaries. Without their uterus, some women complain of having an"empty"feeling at first, especially during sex, even though most men state they cannot detect any difference. It does seem to diminish over time. If you do have your ovaries removed as well, you'll likely need to be on a hormone replacement therapy, at least at first.Good luck, I hope this helped!
