Default Is this fibromyalgia or something else, medical advice needed? - 09-06-2008, 10:20 PM

I've recently incurred large medical bills trying to find out what is wrong with me...I can't afford to go back
Here's a list of all my 'ailments'
I could never sleep as a child- dark circles under eyes
Poor coordination- three broken arms before age nine, countless sprains
Poor muscle tone despite active childhood
Taken to hospital at two years old because I was unable to urinate and was in extreme pain (recently hospitalized for same thing, apparently due to muscles and nerves tightening up so badly in abdomen it effects bowels, bladder, and causes lower rib cage to hurt.)
Extreme growing pains
Depression- from early age
Horrific menstral cramps- tightening of abdomenal muscles would effect bowels- tried to get muscle relaxers, but was too young
Bad pain after labor- feels like extreme growing pains in lower legs, and scraping pains in the bones of the arms
At fifteen I completely lost my appetite and unless I've been drinking or haven't eaten in days, I still don't have it back
My first panic attack was in my sleep in highschool...I'd always been an anxious child, always nervous and jittery
My next one happened in the shower, the next at night
For some reason the older I get the worse these symptoms get...the cold makes me hurt badly, sometimes its difficult to walk from the shivering
When I get stressed my chest hurts like someone has their truck ontop of me...its not just my chest, it feels like my throat too...a lot of pressure..
Heartburn all the time...

I had never thought to tell any of my doctors about my aches and pains...I told my parents and they always told me it was my fault for not exercising and taking my vitamins...bottom line it was my fault and so I stopped talking about it.....
After reading about fibromyalgia I'm starting to wonder....

Sounds like a possible neurological disorder. The urinary retention, muscle weakness and poor co-ordination can all be caused by nerve problems. There are many neurological disorders however. Vitamin B12 deficiency is the easiest of neurological conditions to rule out. Tests to pick up a vitamin B12 deficiency include a urinary megalomaniac acid test (this is the most accurate) a vitamin B12 serum test and a homo cysteine test. The B12 serum is not active B12 so not really the most accurate of test, however a healthy level is over 800pg/ml. Homocyteine levels should be around 6.3IMO/l.

Vitamin D can also affect muscle weakness and cause bone pain. Optimal levels are between 70 - 80nag/ml or 175 - 200Pol/l. Fibromyalgia causes pain in the muscles in certain points on the body. Urinary retention is not a symptom i have ever seen listed with this condition. I would also suggest checking your thyroid function as well.

The first link is a on line diagnosis of B12 deficiency. The G.U symptoms mean genitourinary symptoms - symptoms of the reproductive organs and the urinary system.

Jules, I have Fibromyalgia and I hurt all over, I also have 3 kinds of Europa, several auto-immune diseases your symptoms sound familiar , since my early 20's I knew that something just wasn't right, I started going to doctors and they finally convinced me it was all in my mind. I went to a just a General family doctor that happened to run the right test a Sed Rate and a ANA( anti-nuclear antibody ) and the test came back LUPUS, finally I was no longer crazy. What you need to do is find a RHeumatoligst to have all the right blood work done, If you are considered low income under 1,400.00 a month you can apply for emergency Medicaid. I finally got my disability in 2002 my problems started in 1990. To apply for help go to your county Family and Children services. I wish you luck, my contact info is in my profile, please let me know how your doing. Rita V

i really don't think this is fibril

it could be many things: hypotenuse, OA (brittle bone--but i doubt it--would most likely be a lot more injuries)

good chance it a vitamin absorption

look up Celia disease
