Default my son was just diagnosed with epilepsy, I have a few questions,? - 08-21-2008, 10:05 PM

I have to wait about 6 months to see the Neurologist, but I have the EEG report and I am trying to interpret it the best I can. Any help would be great. It says frequent focal epilepticROMsh charges coming from the right temporal region with greater occipital than parietal spread. and frequent spike and slow wave discharges in singlets adn short trains coming from t6>02>p4 with greater frequency of occurrence during drowsiness adn sleep. thanks for any help!!!!!!
my pediatrician isn't giving me much information on this at all, i just have to sit and wait 6 months to see the specialist and i don't want to wait that long for some answers, this is my son and I am very concerned, I know no one on here will be a specialist but maybe someone has had a child with this and knows a little bit. thank you
and yes he has been started on Keppra. thanks

Consult your doctor! if you are really curious why are you asking this on Yahoo! I seriously doubt anyone on here is any type of specialist in this field.

In simple language, it means that the part of the brain in the right temporal (above the right temple) is firing abnormal electrical impulses which can cause the seizures - mostly during his sleep. Waiting 6 months is a long, long time to wait for an appointment. Hopefully, your son has been started on seizure medication while he waits for this appointment.

The right temporal lobe is the location of the abnormality. That means he is having seizure activity in his brain. It might not develop into a seizure, but its going on. Thats what I have. I have epilepsy and my abnormality is in my right frontal lobe. But even when Im not having a seizure, I have seizure activity in my brain. The most common time to have a seizure is during sleep. Also, if a person is drowsy, it increases the risk of a seizure. My doctor said the three main factors that increase the risk of a seizure is not enough sleep, not enough to eat and stress.

I know people are saying that you shouldn't wait six months. I happen to know through personal experience that 6 months is the standard waiting time to get into a neurologist.

6 months?! That neurologist better be the anti-christ. That's fucking ridiculous, especially for something like epilepsy.
