Default What is your biggest obstacle when dieting and trying to lose weight? - 01-27-2009, 08:13 AM

I was just curious what everyone else struggles with when trying to diet. Mine is just hunger, I have a hearty appetite and loathe the feeling of being hungry so its hard to say no to tasty, greasy foods that are available when I'm dieting. Whats your obstacle? And have you overcome it or are you still battling?

My biggest obstacle was eating properly. I now use the Fat X diet and it's strategies and it really helps.

just step back and look at your life for a minute. If you can't live without foods that taste good, then you are living off a drug (seretonin) a chemical in your brain that makes you feel good. How important is that to you? Try living 1 week without any"good"tasting food. If you can't, just realize that your purpose in life may be limited to a chemical in your brain you can't go any longer than 1 week without.

Starving yourself is not the key, this defeats the purpose of dieting as the body thinks it's in starvation mode so it hold onto every little bit of fat you eat. A better option is eating small meal regularly it's more effective and also you're never hungry. Just keep the meals healthy and you'll be fine.

I struggle to lose weight too, I'd say my biggest obstacle is just staying motivated.

Weight loss is a slow process (apparently very slow in my case) and often I just feel like my hard work isn't paying off. It's hard to visualize any results when I barely lose a pound/week. I keep telling myself that I shouldn't give up and I should stick to my diet plan and my exercising routine, but when I see that scale showing me the same number it did three days ago, I feel like I'm really close to eating an entire box of chocolate cookies.

I have trouble sticking to diets, usually because I expect change quickly and get disappointed when i don't see results, I think my own expectations are my biggest obstacle

Knowledge is half the battle. It may seem counter intuitive, but cutting carbohydrates (sugar and fiber) will yield far better results than cutting fat will. Fat is your energy source and carbohydrates make you store more fat than you normally would, causing you to be larger, having less energy, and be hungrier since you are starving yourself on the cellular level. Eggs fried in butter is far healthier than skim milk over a high fiber cereal in this matter.

Biggest problem while on a diet is counting on calories and sticking to it. Controlling your temptations and hunger is the major hurdle in your weight loss success
