Default Is it risky to leave a person with Alzheimers/Dementia alone? - 01-21-2009, 10:51 AM

My neighbor with this diagnosis of Alzheimer's/Dementia is being left at home alone for several hours at a time. Should this be a cause for concern? I wouldn't want to cause trouble for her son, her caretaker. Please tell me what you think. Do I just need to mind my own business?I did suggest to her son that Home Care services were available to assist him with taking care of his mother but he said she would not allow"strangers"into the house.

Yes, suppose they turn on the stove and forget it is on?Especially a gas stove that you have to light with a match. If they wander outside and forget where they are?

Can start fires, etc.. very dangerous not only for self but also you. What if they burn your home?I would consider it elder abuse/neglect.
