BitterTruthHurts - they don't make flu shots in advance. They would find someone who had recently gotten over that particular new strain of the flu and use their antibodies to make a vaccine. If you get the flu shot, then you would have the antibodies in your bloodstream that have already beaten that strain of the flu. If you are exposed to that strain of the flu, then your body would just begin to make more of those antibodies and so you wouldn't get sick.
