Default Is it possible to have a skin cancer on the head that goes away? - 01-01-2009, 09:54 PM

Is it possible to have a skin cancer on the head that goes away. I have a small spot on my scalp that hurts to the touch, but there is nothing visible. I am balding and I occasionally I will get pimple like things on my head from sweating, etc. I don't remember if I had a pimple in this exact location, but it is possible.

There is a lesion called a self healing epithelioma or dermatokeratosis. It looks like a cancer and goes away.

There are lots of possibilities that could result in what you describe. Skin cancers can go through cycles of activity where they are much more noticable and symptomatic and then appear to heal. The best thing for you to do is note where this lesion is and, should it recur with any degree of regularity, get it checked. Most skin cancers are easily treated, some with creams (over a couple months), and not fatal. It is possible that this is just a blocked sweat gland or hair follicle. Don't worry and pay attention - that's it.
