Default Does anoyone know the treatment for cats with lymphoma? - 12-16-2008, 05:59 PM

My cat has been having respiratory problems, and the vet took and x-ray (where he is staying at the moment) and said there is a 90-80% chance that he has a lymphoma. He says he will definitely die if he does, and that there's no way of treating. He's 12 years old. Can anyone confirm this because I keep on hearing people asking questions about the type of treatment? Please answer quickly, I don't have much time.

I'm Sorry To Say That The Prognosis Isn't Good Mate And If The Results Come Back That Your Cat Does Have Lymphoma, I Think You Know That The Kindest Thing You Can Do Is Let The Vet Euthanize Him.I'm Sorry Mate I Don't Know What More I Can Say.

Chemotherapy is the only recourse. Lymphoma is usually aggressive. Chemo can send it into remission for a while, but it comes back.I worked with a Veterinary Internist and we did chemo treatments together on dogs and cats. There are various protocols for chemo, meaning different courses of drugs in different orders and length of use.Prednisone is usually used, unless there is a contraindication. But, while prednisone may shrink the masses, it is NOT a cure. I would ask your vet for a referral to a Veterinary Oncologist if you can afford it. Or, ask your vet how many Lymphoma patients he has treated. If not many, I would try to find a vet who has.Your other alternative is to do nothing, and when your cat lets you know it is time, take him and have him put to sleep.I am truly sorry for you.

Some cats have been very successfully treated for lymphoma. Unlike humans, it seems that chemotherapy is not terribly hard on them. Follow the links already given to you so that you can talk more with your vet or find another one. 12 is not old!
