Default 24 Years old chance of Lung Cancer? - 07-08-2009, 02:15 AM

Ok here is the deal. I'm 24 years old had been a smoker for about 5 years, a quited like 21 days ago. I have been having a pain on my back since 2 years ago and never went away. Its always there and sometimes is moves like if it was air, but for 2 years, when it started I went to the doctor they did X rays and said my lungs were find. I have gained weight in this 2 years and I feel with lots of energy, but that pain does not go away, its easier to breath if I stretch so a friend said it could be muscular. I'm going to the doctor in 2 weeks to check but I want your opinion. I normally tell myself that if it was cancer since its the same pain I would be dead by now and u don't gain weight and feel good with a tumor that most be big enough to cause back pain right?
Last X-Ray was 2 years ago with the same pain and the doctor said, your lungs are clear. I used to smoke a pack a day filtered cigarettes a day. I quited 21 days ago.

dint worry it probably isn't cancer

2 years it wouldn't have gone unnoticed just make sure u dint start smoking and take it as a warning that if u start again u may actually get it. it should and most probably be muscular damage or something to do with that area

the doctors would have been able to see if it was cancer so dint worry about that.

hope this helps
gird luck in the appointment

When that last X-ray taken? You might want to post the picture.

I don't think it's cancer, but I can't ruled out without knowing how many cigars you take a day.

I really want to cheer you up, but it may lead to the wrong way. Pain doesn't mean the cancer is big. Pain can be caused by infiltratevCancer cells. 5 years might did an irreversible damage unnoticed now.

Lung cancer is extremely rare in a 24-year-old, and if you have had a pain for 2 years caused by cancer, the cancer would have shown up by now.

congrats on quitting! keep it that way!

while I also doubt your own diagnosis, only a doctor can tell definitely what the problem is.
Lung cancer does not typically manifest itself through pain at all.

X-rays don't show everything either, and it takes often an MRI and a CT scan plus extensive blood-works, to detect problems.

have your exam and ask if you should see a Chiropractor, or see one in any event.

The chances of lung cancer at 24 are zero.

Lung cancer is a disease of older people and is extremely rare in under 40s.

Smoking related lung cancer takes decades to develop - it is the length of time you smoke for, rather than how much you smoke, that is the risk factor for lung cancer
