That sudden decision giving up smoking is a early symptom of the cancer. Like many people stopped smoking shortly before being diagnosed with it.

Nope. I suddenly decided to stop smoking 30 years ago. I didn't have cancer, though I might have if I had continued.

I have seen no data from a scientific study to suggest this may be true.
There is no reason to do such a study as this.
This sounds very much like the rumors that circulate like urban legends.
You as a top contributor must realize that large, expensive, group studies
are necessary to prove points such as this.
If anything, this would be serendipity.

No it is not a symptom of lung cancer.
First of all, I?m not sure how many people decide suddenly to stop it usually is something thought about for awhile.
It is not unusual to see people diagnosed with lung cancer who state they recently stopped smoking, but this is usually do to symptoms not the other way around.
