Default Have I got lung cancer? - 07-24-2008, 04:57 AM

Now,since this is my 3rd question about cancer on Y!A,I think I'm a little bit paranoiac. However, since 1 month,I'm coughing everyday, and it never stops. We went to a doctor and I had X-Ray,however,they told me that I'm just bronchitis.I'm using antibiotic since 13 day and there are only 2 pills remain. However,my coughing still continues.I also have a pain in my chest sometimes and I cough sputum. Now what the hell is happening to me?
I'm 14.

I don't smoke and I haven't got smoking people around me.

My mother died because of lung cancer.

Oh,and we also had another check-up about 4 months ago. They took a look to all my lungs and didn't find anything. If that helps.(Not because of coughing, because of pain in my chests, well,I just had cold.)
And I also had a blood test too.

I have no idea, but you should talk to your doctor again and ask them to do some cancer tests. Or go to another doctor. I'm sorry you're sick, but you need to calm down. It's most likely just bronchitis.

I told you on your other question to go get another opinion from another doctor...you should go back to that question and choose mine as the best answer

The symptoms of lung cancer can be

Having a cough most of the time
A change in a cough you have had for a long time
Being short of breath
Coughing up phlegm (sputum) with signs of blood in it
An ache or pain when breathing or coughing
Loss of appetite
Fatigue
Losing weight
A hoarse voice
Difficulty swallowing
Swelling of the face or neck
Pain or discomfort under your ribs on your right side (from the liver)
Shortness of breath caused by fluid around the lungs (called pleural effusion)
All of these symptoms can be caused by other diseases apart from lung cancer. Some rare types of lung cancer can cause symptoms that don?t seem to be anything to do with the lungs
So no you do not have Lung Cancer chances are you just need a stronger antibiotic for your bronchitis go back to your doctor

I doubt it. How old are you and do you smoke? If you're young and don't smoke your chances of lung cancer are pretty low overall. Also this sounds like a relatively normal case of bronchitis to me. It can take a month or more for symptoms like cough, chest pain, etc to start to go away especially if you have a bad case of bronchitis. Lung cancer has other symptoms like coughing blood, shortness of breath [for months/years], etc and doesn't really start suddenly.

Bronchitis is usually not bacterial though, did your doctors do a test to see if the antibiotics would even work for it? Most cases are viral so antibiotics might be useless. Either way, make sure you are also drinking lots of water, eating well and getting lots of rest. Also you might want to sleep with a humidifier next to your bed, it can keep your lungs/nose from drying out and improve the cough a little.

I understand your worry, I am scared of this as well (more so when I'm older though)... I don't think you have it, as the previous responses have said it's probably just the bronchitis that you have.

I hope all these responses have made you feel better or feel a bit more relieved.

I'm sorry for your loss

Lung cancer occurs when something stimulates cells in the lung or lungs to begin to multiply uncontrollably. The most common cause of lung cancer is smoking, although there are other causes, usually involving inhalation of distant particles.

I think if you are smoking then lung cancer happen otherwise you don't get the lung cancer. It is the danger for us so you try to don't smoke so you don't get the lung cancer. If in your family in any person have lung cancer then it may be happen.
